Olive Herb is a culinary plant that imparts the flavour of olives
It’s a delicious addition to the traditional Mediterranean herbs in your spice cupboard, and as a low maintenance plant it’s easy to keep.
Olive herb is so named because it has the scent and flavour of olives. As a culinary herb the leaves give a delicious olive-like flavouring to savoury dishes and salads.
Olive Herb, or Santolina rosemarinifolia ‘olivia’, is a hardy perennial that’s very low maintenance. It’s a small compact shrub up to 50cm high equally happy in borders and containers. Come summer time it produces small yellow button flowers.
The medium sized plant measures around 9cm in height and comes ready for you to plant in the ground or in a container.
The large plant measures around 20cm in height and comes ready for you to plant in the garden or in a container.
Sustainable
The more plants we grow the more our environment improves. Olive Herb is a low maintenance plant that’s equally happy in a container or a border. It can also be used as a low hedge.
The Flavour
Also known as Holy Flax, its Latin name is Santolina rosmarinifolia and it belongs to the daisy family. The aromatic green leaves impart the flavour of olives to dishes.
Care instructions
Olive Herb is a dense and compact evergreen shrub that’s low maintenance but dislikes being waterlogged, thriving in sunny well-drained situations.
