We love happy guests

We’ve spent a heavenly week here in Claire and Andy’s gorgeous trullo and grounds, torn every day as to whether to explore the beautiful little towns nearby (we loved Martina Franca, Locorotondo, and Cisternino, with Locorotondo the favourite and a ‘must see’), go the the beach, or enjoy the pool, swings, animals, toys etc here.  Our 2 year old would quite happily have spent the week hanging about the trullo grounds and had the time of his life!  When we ventured to the beach though, the beach at Torre Guaceto was amazing for kids – the water stays shallow for a really long way out, it’s big but not too crowded, lovely warm water, and even a sweet little train that takes you down to the beach that the kids loved.  We went out for dinner one night while Claire babysat (wonderful!) and had one of the best meals we’ve had in years in Martina Franca at a place called ‘Osteria Piazzetta Garibaldi’ (Piazza Garibaldi 17/18, 74015 Martina Franca, cel 3489957632) – half the food seemed to be on the house, the food was amazing and the house wine beautiful.  It’s good to remember when planning that Italian shops, cafes, restaurants etc all close from about 1 to 5, so not really worth visiting towns during those hours.  We did visit the new restaurant in Cisternino that’s open all day – the food was really nice, but it was expensive compared to other places.  The only thing we’d do differently if we were to come again is get 1 meal made for us by the cook instead of 2, and go out 2 nights rather than 1.
Claire, Andy, and their children really do know how to be there when you need them (and it was lovely to know they were there to chat to, get all the local info from, and for our little one to tag along with Andy watering the ‘bamatos’ etc!) and yet you feel you have the place to yourselves too somehow.   Everything you needed was there, it all just felt very easy.  It was the best holiday we’ve had since having kids by far – the only one where we could use the words ‘holiday’ and ‘relaxing’ in the same sentence!  We hope to come back in a couple of years’ time and will be recommending to all our friends!.
