Chicken RIP
We now have three hens laying, the mixture of free ranging in our fields, a varied diet and the best hen house in Puglia. But as a chick, one of them had a problem with her legs and although she seemed to be getting the better of it, a couple of days ago she had trouble getting up. Once we got her back on her feet she was able to manage but yesterday she couldn’t stand at all and the other hens started picking (or should I say pecking) on her. This meant one thing, that we had to end it for her. After a consultation with his chicken book Andy chose his dispatch method, and in the evening sunshine he ended her short life quickly, painlessly and with dignity. Another lesson in living country ways.
